There were 14 puppies that were inside the minivan were treated by Necogg Humane Society and Dr. Gwenn from the Peake Brook Veterinary Center at the scene. One puppy had to be euthanized, and some others had to be taken to Tufts for emergency care in Massachusetts. Most were brought to a local animal shelter.
The driver of the minivan was bringing the puppies from the West Virginia animal rescue group to new homes, according to fire officials, who noted that they will be brought to those homes once examined.
