ORANGE, Connecticut — Five people were injured in a high speed crash that was captured on a police dashcam late Wednesday.
Orange police said at 10:34 p.m., two officers were on routine patrol traveling westbound on Boston Post Road in the left lane, approaching Lambert Road when a 2016 Mercedes C300 passed them in the right traveling at a high speed.
Seconds later, the Mercedes drove through red traffic signal at the intersection and collided with a 2017 Ford Escape that was traveling south on Lambert Road through the intersection.
Police said the force of the collision pushed the Mercedes through a light post on the southwest corner of the intersection, finally coming to rest in the parking lot of TGI Friday’s.
Police said the driver of the Mercedes ran from the scene into a wooded, wet area nearby. A K9 tracked the suspect but was unsuccessful. Police found a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine was recovered along the trail the suspect ran. A substantial amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia was also recovered from the Mercedes.
Three other occupants of the Mercedes and two occupants of the Ford were injured in the collision and were transported to area hospitals with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation is continuing, and arrest(s) are expected.
