KILLINGLY, Conn. — Walgreens pharmacy confirmed Thursday that nearly 650 jobs at two distribution facilities will be eliminated.
The Walgreens distribution facility on Forbes Road in the Dayville section of Killingly and another location in Orlando Florida will close.
Officials said in a statement, "We are focused on aligning our operational structure to best serve our patients and customers. This includes an evaluation of our distribution center operations in order to streamline capacities to best support our stores. After a careful review, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our distribution centers in Dayville, CT, and Orlando FL, resulting in the elimination of approximately 646 total roles."
Employees will be eligible for positions at other Walgreens stores and facilities according to Walgreens.
The Killingly area of the state is home to a number of large distribution centers due to its access to I-395, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
