KILLINGLY, Conn. — A Rhode Island woman was arrested after a wrong-way collision on Interstate 395 in Killingly Saturday, according to Connecticut State Police.
Megan Wolfsberger, 36, of Smithfield, R.I., is facing charges of operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving the wrong way on a divided highway and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration.
At 1:52 a.m. on Saturday, troopers from Troop D in Danielson went to I-395 north in the area of exit 38 in Killingly after receiving a report about a two-car crash, state police said.
Troopers found two cars stopped in the roadway, including a Toyota Camry in the right shoulder of I-395 north, and a Ford Escape in the left lane of I-395, both with visible damage. No injuries were reported in the crash.
The driver of the Ford Escape told state police that she called 911 to report the crash after the Toyota went from the right shoulder of the highway and took a U-turn within the travel lanes. The Ford driver allegedly did not have enough time to avoid the crash as the Toyota pulled out in front of the Ford.
State police said when speaking with the driver of the Toyota, identified as Wolfsberger, they could smell alcohol and noticed signs that she was possibly impaired.
Wolfsberger told troopers that she had alcohol before driving, according to state police. Troopers also noticed empty bottles consistent in appearance of alcoholic beverage containers inside the car.
After Wolfsberger failed her Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, she was arrested and later released on a $500 bond. She is expected to appear at Danielson Superior Court on Aug. 9.
