HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut's 2024 general election results will be audited at 44 randomly selected voting locations throughout the state, according to the Office of the Secretary of the State (SOTS) Tuesday.
SOTS Stephanie Thomas chose 44 voting precincts at random from the Nov. 5 election for their machine totals to be audited. The Office of the SOTS said there were 868 precincts used in the election.
Fifteen alternate polling places were selected in case any of the 44 locations are unable to be audited for any reason.
Ballots from audited precincts will be matched against the machine vote totals, the Office of the SOTS said. The University of Connecticut and the Office of the SOTS will then analyze the audit results and release them to the public.
According to the Office of the SOTS, Connecticut law requires 5% of all voting precincts, which include "central-count locations for absentee ballots or early-voting ballots" to have machine totals audited after any election or primary.
“Connecticut’s post-election audits are essential to ensuring the integrity of the vote," Thomas said. “I also want to thank our election officials and multiple partners who worked hard to ensure that our election was safe, secure and transparent."
