STAMFORD, Conn. — Testimony from investigators involved in the search for missing New Canaan mom Jennifer Dulos brought the court to Hartford, where witnesses explained how they tracked Fotis Dulos' whereabouts in the capital city on the evening of his estranged wife's disappearance. It’s part of the criminal trial for Michelle Troconis, the one-time girlfriend of Fotis who is facing conspiracy to commit murder charges in Jennifer’s disappearance.
One of those locations was the 300 block of Albany Ave., between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Michael Fitzsimons, a now-retired detective for the state police Western District Major Crimes Squad (WDMCS), testified that he was assigned to obtain surveillance video from a restaurant on the corner of Albany Ave. and Green Street. He said the video showed a black Ford Raptor driving past the restaurant around 7:40 p.m. on May 24, the day Jennifer went missing.
That same vehicle was spotted on at least 10 other city cameras along Albany Ave., according to other court testimony. In some of those videos, Fotis Dulos could be seen leaving the truck to take garbage bags out of the truck bed and put them in city trash cans.
In the footage that showed Albany Ave. and Blue Hills Ave., someone in the passenger seat of the Raptor opened the door, leaned out and reached down toward the pavement, while Fotis walked around the truck. The video showed the truck parked next to a storm drain.
"Appears to be a white female, wearing a short sleeve shirt...maybe her hair is in a ponytail, and I can see at least one of her feet on the sidewalk and her right hand appears to be reaching down towards the brick or pavement," Connecticut State Police Sgt. Michael Beauton Jr. testified Monday afternoon.
Beauton was a detective for WDMCS when he responded to C4 to watch the Albany Ave. footage on May 31. Later that day, he went to the Albany and Blue Hills Avenue intersection, where the Metropolitan District (MDC) was called to pump the storm drain.
"The envelope actually got stuck to their equipment," Beauton testified, "It was like a clink noise."
The envelope contained two Connecticut license plates that were manipulated to show a fake plate number, he testified. After figuring out the real plate number, investigators found that they "came back canceled on a 2007 Chevy Suburban that was registered to Mr. Dulos."
A former crime analyst for the Hartford Police Department testified that they also searched for a white Jeep and a black Chevy Suburban in addition to the Raptor. All these vehicles would have been associated with Fotis.
