STORRS, Conn. — UConn women’s basketball team’s home loss to Notre Dame over the weekend hurt them in the latest AP rank poll.
The female Huskies, who had been on a steady climb up the ranks, dropped out of the top 10 on Monday, losing three spots.
The No. 11 UConn lost their second straight game against the Fighting Irish on Saturday. The two teams have met 54 times and while the Huskies lead the series 39-15, Notre Dame has won four of the last seven meetings.
Notre Dame’s win in Storrs propelled them up the AP ranking to No. 14.
Meanwhile, South Carolina kept its grip on the No. 1 spot while No. 2 Kansas State matched its best ranking ever. The Gamecocks received all 35 first-place votes.
Iowa moved back up to third as Caitlin Clark moved closer to the all-time scoring record in women's college basketball.
Stanford and North Carolina State followed Iowa in the poll. Colorado, which split a pair of games in Oregon, fell three spots to sixth. UCLA dropped five places to seventh after an overtime loss to Utah and a defeat at home to Washington State.
Ohio State vaulted up four spots to eighth while LSU stayed put at nine. Indiana was 10th.
Texas dropped two spots to 12th.
Fairfield University also received 13 votes this week.
