UConn's Caroline Ducharme to miss rest of 2023-24 season

She is the fifth female Husky player to be lost this season.

STORRS, Conn. — UConn women’s basketball announced Tuesday afternoon that junior guard Caroline Ducharme will sit out for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

Ducharme started UConn’s first four games of the season. She was averaging 4.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

Ducharme wants to focus on her recovery full-time she said in a statement released by the team.

“I have been working tirelessly with my medical team to make a full return to basketball after sustaining head and neck injuries," said Ducharme. "It has honestly been a frustrating process with many ups and downs. At this time, the difficult decision was made to take a step back and not play the remainder of the 2023-24 season so I could focus on my recovery full-time.

She said that she is guided by her faith, family, UConn coaches, and teammates.

"My medical team and am so grateful to have the support of everyone around me. I’m confident that this is the best decision so I can continue to play the sport I love at UConn and professionally," she said. “As hard as it is to be away from the court until the 2024-25 season, I’m always supporting my team and I can’t wait to rejoin them on the court next season.”

Ducharme is the fifth female Husky player to be forced to sit out this season.

Forward Aubrey Griffin announced earlier this month that she would be out for the 2023-24 season after suffering an ACL injury in their game against Creighton in early January. The Huskies have already lost Azzi Fudd for the season and Ayanna Paterson for the season, both due to a knee injury.

The team has appeared in the poll for 576 consecutive weeks.
