NORTH HAVEN, Conn. — A high pressure gas main rupture in North Haven stopped local trains and delayed traffic, and caused evacuations in the area Tuesday, according to the town's fire department.
The North Haven Fire Department responded to a gas main rupture in the 200 block of Washington Avenue, where multiple businesses, including the Best Western hotel, were evacuated.
A construction crew hit the main gas line on the property they were working on, according to North Haven police.
Rail traffic in the area was stopped, according to firefighters. Amtrak suspended its trains in the area, according to police. Click here for the latest scheduling alerts from CTrail.
Officials said delays were expected for several hours, as Washington Avenue had one lane on each side open around Wadsworth Avenue and the Interstate 91 ramps. Besides the ramp closures, traffic on I-91 has not been impacted at this time; officials are monitoring the environment and wind conditions.
Southern CT Gas was on the scene to turn off the gas line.
No injuries have been reported.
This is a developing story.
