GROTON, Conn. — Another round of rain has brought flooding as parts of Connecticut continue recovery from previous flooding that resulted from a rainstorm earlier in the week.
Meteorologists expected between 1 to 2 inches of rain from this system. The rain let up Saturday morning.
Groton police asked people to avoid downtown Mystic, as there were "significant flooding conditions" during high tide midday Saturday. Police also monitored the intersection of South Road and Route 1 in the area of the Poquonnock River.
Flooding started filling the railway underpass on South Road, and Poqionnock Bridge Professional Firefighters Local 2704 said crews rescued a driver whose vehicle got stuck.
In Waterford, police had advised residents of closures and areas of concern along the Niantic River:
- Niantic River Road was closed at First Ave.
- Oswegatchie Road near Wilcox CT was closed
- Use caution in the Ridgewood Park Area
- Use caution on Old Norwich Road at Quaker Lane
- Use caution on Oil Mill Road
- Use caution at the Intersection of Route 213 and Route 156
All these roads have since been reopened.
The City of Milford is also seeing flooding. The following roads are closed, and Milford police warn that more areas could be flooded:
- New Haven Ave. between Old Gate Lane/Water Overpass by “Sundae House”
- Gulf St. & Oldfield Lane
- 1st Ave & Milford Point Road
The Connecticut River did not see massive flooding early Saturday morning, but areas along the banks of the river are pooling with water.
In Middletown, puddles can be seen on the sidewalks of Harbor Park as the rain continued into Saturday morning.
The parking lot of Wethersfield Cove also saw some flooding from the Connecticut River.
In Montville, some roadways are starting to flood, including at Pruett Place, according to a video posted to the Chesterfield Fire Company PIO's Facebook page.
In preparation for more potential flooding, Norwich Public Utilities has issued Friday evening a "prepare to evacuate" notice to residents, as they monitor the flooding that resulted from a broken dam in Bozrah.
