BRIDGEPORT -- Murder suspect Oscar Hernandez was arraigned Monday after a month and a half in custody of Pennsylvania authorities

Hernandez, 39, is accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death and kidnapping their daughter and triggering an Amber Alert, was arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Federal immigration authorities say Oscar Hernandez should not of even been in Bridgeport. The citizen of El Salvador had already been kicked out of the United States following several felony convictions involving relationship another woman.

"He was deported back in 2013 and at least, what the paper reported, was that, you know, not sure how he reentered the country," said attorney John Gulash, Hernandez's lawyer.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, at 2 a.m., on Feb. 24, one of the landlords, living upstairs from Hernandez and his girlfriend, at Greenfield Street home, heard Gonzalez yelling "Oscar no!" That was followed by the sound of falling glass.

"He was pretty quiet and calm from him living here," said Ransford Lobban,, a Greenfield St. resident. "I know him, so it was definitely crazy."

The landlord then reports falling back asleep and waking up 30 minutes later to hear Nydia Gonzalez's friend, Brenda Castellanos, yelling for help. So the landlord and her husband raced downstairs to find a bloody mess.

"It was surprising," said Lobban. "I just couldn't believe it. Even though today I'm still wondering what could lead up to that. You know, what causes it."

Gonzalez died at the scene. Castellanos is still recovering from stab wounds. Hernandez, who was caught eight hours after the confrontation by cops in Pennsylvania, had his six-year-old daughter in the car while a police pursuit reached speeds of approximately 125 mph at a times

"I would definitely like to look at his face you know when I ask him why," states Lonban.

Hernandez's lawyer says it took six weeks to extradite him to Connecticut because Pennsylvania authorities were apparently unable to secure an interpreter for his initial extradition hearing.
