Things to do this weekend in Connecticut, August 16-18

From the Wigwam Festival in Uncasville to an oyster festival in Milford, here's what's happening in Connecticut this weekend!

CONNECTICUT, USA — As we enter the second weekend of August, there are festivals and fairs across the state that are celebrating this late-summer season!

Head to Uncasville this Saturday and Sunday to learn and participate in Native American history and culture at the Mohegan Wigwam Festival! This year’s Wigwam Festival will honor Mohegan lands, which offer a rich history and insight into who they are as a people. Featured drum groups include Rez Dogz (Northern Host), Ottertrail (Southern Host), Crow Hill (Invited Northern) and Southern Eagle (Invited Southern). Head dancers include Amanda Gremo and Attaquin Weeden. You can see an event schedule and learn more about the dancers and groups participating on the website.

Terrificon is coming back to Mohegan Sun this Friday through Sunday! It's a three-day celebration of superheroes, comic books, anime, sci-fi/fantasy television, and movies! Attendees can meet Marvel/DC artists and writers and actors from popular films, anime shows, and TV shows. The convention will also feature costume contest, video games, expert panels, collectibles and more. The convention runs from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. all weekend. Head here to learn more. 

It's a weekend of history and learning at the 33rd Annual Antique Marine Engine Expo! This event will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Mystic Seaport Museum. With over 300 exhibits, it's one of the oldest marine engine shows in the whole country! Exhibitors come from all over, and many of the engines will be operating on the day they were purchased! Steamers will be huffing and puffing, inboards chugging away, and outboards stirring up the water, and models of all types will be converting air pressure or electricity into rotary power! It's a noisy, energetic event! The expo will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. To learn more, head here.

Further down the shorelines, the 50th Annual Milford Oyster Festival will occur this Saturday! The festival will have over 30,000 locally sourced oysters as well as live music, including the band Little Feat, Jason Scheff, and Tommy DeCarlo. Over 200 arts and crafts vendors will also be on the Milford Green while other food vendors serve up more delicious dishes to try! To learn more about the festival and see the entertainment schedule, head here.

It'll be a sweet Saturday as Lyman Orchards hosts its Peach Festival! Lyman Orchards has a long history in the peach-growing business, going back 130 years! Attendees can pick their own peaches at the South Street location. They'll have a special Peach Sundae available at the Lyman Orchards Creamery, have live music, horse-drawn wagon rides, face painting, storytime and crafts, and more! This festival is free to attend. Yo ho, yo ho, it's a pirate's life for you at New London Pirate Night! This event takes place Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Parade Plaza. Don your pirate attire for a swashbuckling photo session, mingle with the crew, and learn about seeking hidden treasures as hints are unveiled on the exciting New London Pirate Adventure Map! Embark on a musical voyage with Captain Lance D. Boyal of the Picaroon Princess and learn a shanty or two! This event is free to attend. Learn more about the event here!
