Family-friendly summer events in Connecticut this weekend, June 28-30

From sweet treats to dancing to the beat, here's what's going on in Connecticut this weekend!

CONNECTICUT, USA — It's the final weekend of June, and while there is the chance for a scattered storm or shower, there are still plenty of events happening across the state to check out with friends and family!

Is boating on your mind? Head to the Mystic Seaport Museum for the WoodenBoat Show! This show offers something for all wooden boat enthusiasts and maritime history buffs. There will be more than 100 traditional and classic wooden boats of every type on display, from handcrafted kayaks and mahogany runabouts to classic daysailers and schooners. The show runs from Friday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn more here.

All aboard! It's another week you can catch the Ice Cream Train this summer in Thomaston! Take a break from the heat of summer and enjoy this 30-minute scenic train ride through the Naugatuck River Valley and over the Thomaston Dam. The Connecticut Ice Cream Truck will run on Fridays and Saturdays until Aug. 17. Learn more about the train rides here!

Get your groove on in Hartford this Saturday and Sunday with the Capitol Groove music festival! This new event will happen at Bushnell Park and will feature 14 bands playing folk and roots music. There will also be a variety of food trucks, craft beverages, and other fun activities to enjoy as well. Residents of Hartford can get a discount on tickets if they purchase them on Friday at the Infinity Hall Box Office in Hartford. Learn more here.

Head to Norwich on Friday night and Saturday for the Rose Arts Festival! This is a free festival with live music and performance art. Attendees can enjoy performances from over 40 artists as well as have hands-on workshops at a creative station along with a kids zone! Saturday is the last day of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas in New Haven! This is one of the nation's only festivals of its size that brings together world-class artists, thinkers, and performers. This festival runs every year for 16 days and features over 150 programs and events, including many that are free of charge! On Saturday, there will be over a dozen different events to choose from, including guided bike rides, workshops, inspirational talks, an art and food tour, a Caribbean Heritage Festival, plus more. Are you ready for an adventure? Head to the Trumbull Nature & Arts Center for their Science Adventure Trail this weekend! You and your family can go on a self-guided environmental science journey using a specially designed map and guidebook. You'll take a toolkit along with you as you navigate the easy-to-walk trails, conduct experiments, and participate in activities along the way. The trail adventure runs on Saturday and Sunday. The Watertown History Museum is getting into the Fourth of July spirit on Sunday with its Red, White, and Brew event! With the help of Sunset Grille, they're gathering some of the best local breweries in the state and holding a picnic-style barbecue. There will also be a silent auction with several prizes, including a hotel stay for 2-4 nights in Cancun, Mexico! The event runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sunset Grille on Northfield Road. Ready for a sweet treat? The Lyman Orchards Raspberry Festival will happen this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.! You can pick your own blue and raspberries, ride horse-drawn wagon rides, get your face painted, and enjoy live music and food trucks! It's a family-friendly event that's fun for all.
