Labyrinth and repeat | Lyman Orchards Corn Maze continues mission to raise money for charity

The corn maze is a tradition 24 years in the running. It's become a fall classic. This year's theme celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Peanuts gang.

MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. — This fall marks the 24th year of the Lyman Orchards Corn Maze, and there are many reasons to be animated about this edition of the maze.

The team at Lyman Orchards is celebrating Snoopy and the 75th anniversary of the Peanuts. Across about four acres in Middlefield, their maze has been cut to reveal Snoopy, Woodstock and the goodwill that the Peanuts gang has brought for generations.

John Lyman, the president of Lyman Orchards, is always a big advocate for the corn maze. He says the response this year has brought excitement to the orchards.

"What’s fun is we talk a lot about the Peanuts and the history of Charles Schultz and how he came up with the characters, and we also do some history about Lyman Orchards," Lyman said.

Lyman added that because of favorable weather conditions, the corn stalks have grown to around 12 feet high this year.

"The maze is very challenging,” he said, laughingly.

Lyman also stressed that the maze offers its share of twists and turns, but there is also a direct path to help the American Cancer Society.

“Since 2000, our very first maze, we have been donating one dollar of every ticket sold to the American Cancer Society, and this year, we will pass the $800,000 mark, which I never would have thought possible.” Lyman said, noting that $800,000 dollars is "phenomenal.”

Above all, Lyman said the maze continues its mission to raise money for charity but also to keep making memories for the families that come visit.

“To see the smiles and the laughter, people really are enjoying it, said Lyman, “It’s a great time.”
