DEDHAM, Mass. — A 4-year-old potbelly pig who was struggling with weight and emotional issues is ready for her forever home.
Nala the pig was surrendered to the Massachusetts-based American Rescue League of Boston (ARL) in October after her owner could no longer care for her. She arrived “overweight and with weight-related mobility and emotional issues.”
The ARL said Nala was previously subjected to animal cruelty in Ohio.
The organization said the potbelly’s weight made it uncomfortable for her to move around and she was “closed off” from others.
However, with the help of the team at ARL, Nala wants to start the New Year on the right hoof with a permanent home.
She has lost the extra pounds, which has improved her mobility and her behavior, according to ARL.
“A slimmed down Nala can now be seen moving freely throughout her paddock and she has also begun welcoming interaction, allowing pets and show off her sweet and tender side,” the organization said.
Nala’s new owner will have to continue helping her lose weight. Adoption information is available on ARL’s website.
