ENFIELD, Conn. — It is the end of an era for Connecticut – and much of New England – as The Whole Donut has closed its doors for good.
The doughnut and coffee chain, which once boasted 40 locations in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Vermont, announced on social media over the weekend that it was no more.
“As of today we say goodbye to the Whole Donut Brand,” they posted on Facebook. “Share your favorite Whole Donut memories and photos below.”
The company did not provide a reason for its closure; however, it had shut down most of its locations in recent years. The chain was founded in 1955.
“The best donuts! I wish I had the old fashioned donut recipe!” one person commented on the store’s Facebook post.
Another person wrote: “Worked at the one in Berlin, CT back in the 80's. Me, and 2 of my sisters worked here at the same time. Made amazing friends, met future husband.... lots of memories!”
The last remaining Whole Donut shop – at 920 Enfield St. in Enfield – has been closed and replaced by a King Donuts.
King Donuts has two other locations in Manchester and East Hartford.
