WATERFORD, Conn. — The Crystal Mall in Waterford will be losing an anchor store this spring.
A spokesperson for JCPenney confirmed to FOX61 on Wednesday that it will be closing its doors at the mall by May 25.
The spokesperson said the decision to close "is never an easy one," and that they are "grateful" for their associates and customers.
"We continue to work to make every dollar count for America's diverse, working families and welcome them to shop at our other JCPenney stores in the area and at JCPenney.com," the spokesperson said.

The company did not elaborate on the reason behind the closure.
JCPenny had been the only store left in an anchor position at the mall since Christmas Tree Shops closed last year, according to The Day. The mall's other anchor stores, Macy's, Sears, and Bed, Bath & Beyond, closed in 2021, 2018 and 2022 respectively.
There are five other Connecticut JCPenney locations found on the company website: Danbury, Farmington, Manchester, Trumbull, and Waterbury.
It is not clear if another anchor store or business will take JCPenney's place.
Crystal Mall first opened in 1984 with its anchor stores Filene's, Jordan Marsh, JCPenny, and Sears.
