EAST HAVEN, Conn. — Two home invaders with a gun broke into an East Haven home on Sunday afternoon, attempting to steal a high value cat, the East Haven Police Department reported.
The home invasion occurred at 3:46 p.m., as two male suspects broke into the residence through a rear slider door, police said. Their target was an expensive feline.
After kicking through the slider’s glass pane, the suspects revealed a gun and ordered a resident to hand over the animal. The suspects searched the house for several minutes and were unable to locate the cat before a resident fought them off, police said.
Police reported that the suspects fled the home in a blue BMW without the cat.
East Haven Police Investigative Services Division detectives were called to the scene and took over the investigation. The department said their efforts led them to Hamden where the blue BMW was located.
The BMW was seized and processed for evidence pertinent to the investigation, which revealed the targeted attack was orchestrated by individuals familiar with each other, police said.
“This was not a random incident, and detectives are following up on several leads,” East Haven Police Capt. Joseph Murgo, commander of the Administration and Investigative Services Division, said in a release on Monday.
Police said no injuries were caused by the incident, which is still being investigated.
