TROY, Vermont — A Hartford man was accused of shooting a woman multiple times and disposing of the body in a large toolbox in February, according to Vermont State Police.
In a release Wednesday, VSP said that an arrest warrant was signed for Jakiy Tramaine Corey Keith, 24, of Hartford, on charges of first-degree murder and unauthorized burial or removal of a body. He was previously arrested on Feb. 6 on federal drug charges and has since been in custody.
The warrant carries a bail amount of $250,000, VSP said.
Investigators learned that Keith shot Kayla Wright, 29, of Derby, Vt. multiple times in the early morning of Feb. 2 in a residence on Vermont Route 100 in Troy, Vt., according to VSP, who noted that the shooting stemmed from a dispute related to drug trafficking in northern Vermont.
An autopsy from the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Burlington, Vt. found that Wright died by a gunshot wound to the head and that her manner of death was a homicide.
Aaron Camp, 34, of Derby, Vt., and Terron "Josh" Pendleton, 34, of Waterbury, Vt., helped to clean up the crime scene after the shooting, and Camp assisted Keith with disposing Wright's body in a large toolbox on a sandbar in the area of Big Falls on the Missisquoi River in Troy, Vt., VSP said.
Camp and Pendleton were arrested Wednesday. Their arraignments were delayed to Thursday in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Newport, Vt. after invoking the 24-hour-rule in court.
Both are facing charges of being an accessory after the fact to murder, while Camp is also charged with unauthorized burial or removal of a body.
Camp was held on a $10,000 bail and Pendleton was ordered to be jailed for lack of a $25,000 bail.
A court hearing for Keith has not been scheduled yet.
