NAUGATUCK, Conn. — On Tuesday, a Naugatuck man was arrested on a warrant for resisting arrest and failure to appear, according to a release on Wednesday from the local police department.

Fifty-seven-year-old Perry Willets faces a variety of charges stemming from an incident on June 20 as well as another on July 9.

Police said that on June 20, they observed a car being driven by Willets near Rubber Avenue and Cherry Street. Willets was found to have an active arrest warrant for first-degree failure to appear, according to police.

When police stopped the car, they attempted to get Willets out, but he refused and “drove off at a high rate of speed,” the release said.

On Tuesday, police said they attempted to serve Willets with an arrest warrant at his home for the June 20 incident, but he barricaded himself inside and refused to come out. Police said when they forced entry, Willets surrendered to them peacefully.

In the release, police said that Willets is charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer, failure to show registration/no fault insurance card/license, reckless driving and disobeying the signal of an officer for offenses related to the car stop.

Willets was also charged with interfering with an officer for the incident at his home on Tuesday, and he is still charged with the original outstanding failure to appear in the first degree warrant, according to police.

Police said Willets was held on a $7,500 surety bond and was arraigned at Waterbury Superior Court on Wednesday morning.
