VOLUNTOWN, Conn. — A head-on crash occurred Saturday morning in Voluntown, according to a release from Connecticut State Police.
A 2013 Nissan Rouge driven by a 45-year-old man from South Hadley, Mass. was traveling east on Route 138 with a 35-year-old female passenger from Chicopee, Mass, according to the crash report.
Meanwhile, a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited S being driven by a 72-year-old man from Hampton was driving west on the same road, the crash report said.
According to state police, the driver of the Jeep “suffered an unknown medical condition” causing his vehicle to veer off the north shoulder and strike the steel beam guardrail. It then crossed the center median and struck the south steel beam guardrail before colliding with the Nissan Rouge head on.
The crash report said all occupants were transported to Backus Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by state police.
