ROCKY HILL, Conn. — The northbound side of Interstate 91 in Rocky Hill has reopened after a fatal crash overnight.
State police said the area between Exits 23 and 24 was shut down around 3 a.m. Saturday. The highway reopened later in the day.
State police conducted a preliminary investigation, determining that a Nissan Versa had veered into the right shoulder and hit a metal beam guardrail. The crash caused the driver to be thrown from his seat, state police said.
An Acura TLX ended up hitting the stopped Nissan, troopers said.
The Nissan driver, identified as Portland resident Marcos M Benitez Rengifo, 44, died from his injuries at the scene.
The Acura driver was not injured and declined medical treatment, state police said.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact Trooper Michael Dean at 860-534-1098 or michael.dean@ct.gov.
This is a developing story.
