GROTON, Conn. — A Waterford man died from his injuries Sunday morning after his 2019 Toyota Tacoma crashed in the center median on Interstate 95 northbound prior to Exit 89 in Groton, state police said.
John Longinidis, 27, was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat by first responders. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:03 a.m.
A passing driver first reported the crash around 7:33 a.m., and state police from Troop E responded. Upon arrival, troopers discovered the black pickup truck at its final uncontrolled resting place with its left side against a tree approximately 50 feet off the road in the center median, according to state police.
Longinidis was the driver and only person in the truck. His shoulder and lap belts were used, and his airbag deployed.
Longinidis’ body was taken to the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington.
The collision remains under investigation at this time. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information pertinent to the investigation is asked to contact State Trooper Christopher Brett #691 at 860-848-6500x5.
