WESTPORT, Conn. — A Fairfield man is facing several charges after driving the wrong way on Interstate 95 over the weekend.
State police said troopers assigned to Troop G out of Bridgeport were notified of a wrong-way driver around 3:15 a.m. on Sunday. The driver was reportedly traveling northbound in the southbound lanes in the Westport area.
Responding troopers found the vehicle, a Honda CR-V driven by 22-year-old Cory Gomes, in the center median. Officials said Gomes had crashed within a construction pattern in the area of Exit 17 in Westport. No injuries were reported, police said.
While they spoke with Gomes, troopers saw that his eyes appeared bloodshot and reportedly detected the smell of alcohol coming from inside the Honda.
Troopers conducted a field sobriety test at the scene, which Gomes did not successfully pass. Gomes was taken into custody and taken to Troop G where he was charged with driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, drawing the wrong way on a highway, and reckless driving.
Gomes was released on a $2,500 bond and is expected in Stamford Superior Court in April.
