ROCKY HILL, Conn. — State police arrested a driver on a DUI charge after a multi-vehicle crash Friday night on Interstate 91 south in Rocky Hill that left one dead and four people injured.
At 8:48 p.m., state police responded to the crash on the highway, which happened near exit 23.
The crash involved 3 vehicles, resulting in the death of Jada Upshaw, 26, of Bloomfield, who was driving a Nissan Versa S. Police said she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the nearby hospital.
According to police, the collision began when a BMW 328xi swerved from the left lane into the left center lane, striking the Nissan. Both cars rolled over, with the Nissan crossing into the right lane and hitting a GMC Terrain SLT.
The passenger in the Nissan, the driver and passenger of the GMC and the BMW driver sustained minor injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals, police said.
The investigation suggests that the BMW driver, identified as Jacob Texidor, 23, of Ellington, was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, police said.
Police arrested Texidor for driving under the influence and released him on a $50,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Oct. 25.
Authorities are seeking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to assist with the ongoing investigation.
