Vehicle fire after crash results in 2 fatalities in Burlington

A vehicle hit a tree and caught fire on Johnnycake Mountain Road in Burlington Saturday night.

BURLINGTON, Conn. — Late Saturday night, around 11:10 p.m., Fire and EMS crews were dispatched near 61 Johnnycake Mountain Road and Cider Mill in Burlington for a motor vehicle accident.

For an unknown reason, the vehicle had veered into the right shoulder, struck a mailbox, and came to an uncontrollable stop against a tree. Shortly after the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, according to police. 

Unfortunately, the driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene by the Burlington Paramedic's.  

Their identities have not yet been released as this incident remains under investigation by the Connecticut State Police, Collision Analysis Reconstruction Squad and the Burlington Fire Marshal.

There are no further details at this time.
