MERIDEN, Conn. — A Middlefield man is dead after a shooting on Interstate 691 in Meriden, state police said.
Just before 8:10 p.m. Sunday, state troopers with Troop I - Bethany were told of an "active disturbance" along the highway in the area of exit 2A in Meriden. Meriden fire crews and EMS were also called to the scene.
According to state police, troopers who got to the scene learned that a shooting happened on the highway during a "road rage-type incident."
A man identified as 48-year-old Scott Kracke was rushed to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead.
State police said that detectives with the Central District Major Crime Squad took over the investigation. State police said the incident was isolated, and they believe there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Officials said a suspect has been identified and that the investigation remains ongoing.
State police did not state how many vehicles were involved or identify the suspect at this time.
