BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The Bridgeport Public Library’s East Side Branch closed on Saturday, as renovations will soon begin.
The Bridgeport Public Library said in a release this week that the library located at 1174 East Main Street will undergo renovations that are expected to take around nine months. The renovation project was awarded this past spring to Bismark Construction Company.
The East Side Branch resides in the old Salvation Army Building in the East Side neighborhood on the corner of East Main Street and Shelton Street.
The Bridgeport Public Library says that when the East Side Branch is completed, it will have a new exterior, a first-floor community room and an elevator leading to the newly renovated second floor. The second floor will include spaces for teens and children’s departments, study rooms and a state-of-the-art podcasting studio, all of which will be designed by Antinozzi Associates, Inc., a local architectural firm.
The ground-breaking ceremony is scheduled to occur at the East Side Branch on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The renovation project is funded in part with state bonding; it is administered by the Connecticut State Library’s Division of Library Development.
The Bridgeport Public Library’s Main Library and four other branches are still open. One can click here to visit the Bridgeport Public Library online and find information about its locations and programming.
