Almeida-bastos then got out of the vehicle and took off on foot. According to police, investigators learned that the vehicle had been stolen in Danbury several days before.

Newtown police, along with Connecticut State Police and multiple police K9s, searched for Almeida-bastos in multiple neighborhoods, including Clearview Drive, Hitfield Road, Mile Hill Road South and South Main Street. Police said they also received calls from town residents who spotted him and gave a location and description.

Almeida-bastos was arrested after a resident saw him at 2:52 p.m. in their backyard attempting to enter the home through the backdoor, police said. He was unsuccessful as the door had been locked.

Police said Almeida-bastos was taken to the hospital for cuts and lacerations from running through the woods and was held on a $100,000 bond. He is expected at Danbury Superior Court on Monday.
