BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Bridgeport police said a motorcycle crash Thursday left two people dead.
At 1:05 p.m. on Thursday, the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center received a call about a single motorcycle crash at the intersection of Waldemere Avenue and Atlantic Street.
Bridgeport Fire Engine 3, American Medical Response and Bridgeport police responded to the scene where an officer found a man and woman lying in the grass next to a motorcycle off of the road near Atlantic Street, police said. Both were unresponsive.
AMR attended to the man and woman before both died of their injuries at the scene, according to police.
Police identified the two as Rohith Gurumurthy, 29, the motorcycle operator, and Zaveriya Shaikh, 23, the passenger on the motorcycle.
Based on preliminary information, police said they learned that the two were traveling on a 2016 black Ducati Scrambler 800, headed east along Waldemere Road and then east on Atlantic Street.
Gurumurthy lost control of the motorcycle, mounting the curb before it came to a rest near the safety bollards on Atlantic Street, police said.
The Bridgeport Serious Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene.
