2-year-old shot in hand, foot in Monroe: Police

Police said the toddler had non-life-threatening injuries and that the incident happened at his home.

MONROE, Conn. — A 2-year-old boy from Monroe is recovering from gunshot wounds he got Tuesday night, and now an investigation is underway to learn how it happened, police said. 

The Monroe Police Department and Monroe EMS were called to the intersection of Route 110 and Osborn Lane around 9:20 p.m. on the report of an "emergency medical incident." 

When they got to the scene, officers found the toddler had a gunshot wound to the hand and his foot. He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital at first and then transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment.

Police said the toddler is undergoing surgery, but his injuries are non-life-threatening. 

Monroe detectives learned the incident happened at the boy's home. When the boy's mother learned of his injuries, she tried to take him to the local hospital before calling 911. 

Monroe officials said detectives are investigating how the toddler got the gunshot wounds.
