DANBURY, Conn. — A state trooper is recovering after their cruiser was hit by a tractor-trailer while investigating a previous crash on Interstate 84 in Danbury.
Connecticut state police and the Danbury Fire Department were called to the first crash on I-84 West near Exit 8 just after 9 p.m. Friday.
State police were investigating a crash involving a tractor-trailer and small coach bus, which slid off the road and into the center median, Danbury firefighters said.
During the investigation, another tractor-trailer lost control and ended up jackknifing, then hitting an SUV and a state police cruiser, officials said.
The state police trooper was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and has since been released, state police said.
"This incident is yet another reminder of just how dangerous it is for first responders to operate on our roadways," Danbury firefighters said on social media.
There were three people inside the SUV; one sustained minor injuries while two others did not report injuries, troopers said.
The tractor-trailer driver was issued infractions for traveling too fast for conditions and failure to maintain lane.
Environmental officials were called to clean up the fuel that spilled from the second tractor-trailer.
