DANBURY, Conn. — A commercial motor vehicle was pulled over in Danbury Wednesday morning for far exceeding the permitted weight limit without a permit, state police said on Thursday.
According to state police, troopers from the Traffic Services Unit were “conducting commercial vehicle enforcement” on Interstate 84 in the Danbury area when a truck with an oversized load was seen by passing the Danbury scale along I-84 eastbound by using secondary roads.
State police said when they stopped the vehicle from New York, they discovered it had multiple oversize load permit violations. It also did not have a CT DOT oversize permit.
By using portable scales, troopers calculated that the vehicle weighed 183,300 pounds, which exceeds the weight limit by 103,300 pounds for vehicles without a permit, according to state police.
Also, six of the eight axles did not comply with the maximum allowed weight of 18,000 pounds per axle. State police said size violations were also found; the vehicle was over height, over length and over width without permit.
The vehicle was taken out of service, and the carrier was fined $39,101, state police said.
