CANTON, Connecticut — Hopes were high heading into the Memorial Day Weekend when the unofficial start of summer kicked off at Collinsville Canoe & Kayak.
After a difficult 2023 that saw around 28 weekends washed out by flooding rains, Jon and Sue Warner, the owners of Collinsville Canoe & Kayak, are calling the summer of 2024 a success.
Preparing for Labor Day Weekend rentals and sales, Jon Warner said, “This year has been great, we’ve had much better weather, and any storms that have come seemed to have come at off hours. It’s definitely [been] a comeback here. We were able to have more people on staff and provide a better service.”
Sue Warner added, “There were some really hot days where people were really happy to come down here and be on paddleboards and overall, for the for the rental business, it was great.”
Good weather during the Labor Day Weekend always is a plus, Jon remarked.
"It’s our last big weekend before the foliage season, so we count on this weekend being solid for us," Jon said.
Sue then said, “People love to come down and have one last splash, but it shouldn’t be one last splash because the fall season is really the nicest time of the year to paddle!”
