GLASTONBURY, Conn. — A man was arrested Monday for a stabbing in Glastonbury that took place with minors nearby, the town's police department said.
Officers received a report at 11:36 a.m. on Sunday about a fight that had taken place between two men at the Academy Building on Main Street. Police said that when they arrived at the scene, one man was found with injuries from a stabbing and that they were still looking for the suspect.
The man who had been stabbed was taken to the hospital and was reportedly conscious and alert, police said.
At 9:51 p.m., police said that they arrested 52-year-old Marcus McDaniel of Hartford on charges of criminal attempt murder, assault first degree, breach of peace, and risk of injury to a minor.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police determined that McDaniel was attending a gymnastics event inside the Academy Building when he began fighting with a man that he knew. The two left the gym and went into the hallway where the fight became physical, police said.
According to police, McDaniel reportedly stabbed the man "in the presence of minors" during the fight.
McDaniel turned himself in and was expected in Manchester Superior Court Monday on a $1,000,000 bond.
The Academy building houses multiple town hall offices including parks and recreation, Probate Court, information technology, and has a "teen center", a gym for gymnastics and other multi-purpose rooms, according to the town website.
