3 hit by SUV after Hartford light pole crash: District fire chief

One person was left with a head injury, and two with minor injuries, the fire department said. The driver was arrested after taking off from the scene on foot.

HARTFORD, Conn. — Three people were hit by an SUV after it crashed into a light pole in Hartford Tuesday evening, District Fire Chief Mario Oquendo, Jr. said. The driver was arrested after taking off from the scene on foot.

According to Oquendo, Hartford firefighters went to the area of Main Street and Park Street at 8:46 p.m. after receiving a report about an accident involving a vehicle that hit multiple pedestrians.

Based on preliminary information, the fire department said they learned that an SUV brought a light pole down after hitting it, and then collided with three people, Oquendo said.

One person had a head injury, and two others had minor injuries, according to Oquendo. All three people were taken to the hospital.

Oquendo said the driver attempted to run from the scene and was arrested after a pursuit on foot. The cause of the collision is currently unknown.
