Arrest made in Hartford shooting, 17 years later: Police

Both the suspect and victim were 18 at the time of the shooting.

HARTFORD, Conn. — A cold case in Hartford is nearly closed after the suspect of a 2007 shooting was arrested Tuesday, police announced Friday.

Police arrested Ramon Smith, 35, of Hartford after he was extradited to Connecticut from Warren, Maine. Smith now faces charges connected to the shooting death of Joshua McClelland, police said.

Police were called to the 200 block of Blue Hills Avenue on the evening of March 25, 2007, where responding officers found McClelland with multiple gunshot wounds. He was then taken to an area hospital where he later died of injuries, police said.

Both Smith and McClelland were 18 at the time.

Smith was charged with murder and criminal possession of a firearm. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
