HARTFORD, Conn. — A Hartford man is dead after a shooting Monday evening, and now a suspect is in custody, police said.
Around 7:15 p.m., Hartford police officers were notified via ShotSpotter of shots fired on Garden Street in the area of Nelson Street.
When officers got to the scene, they found 43-year-old Randi Gunn unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Gunn was rushed to St. Francis Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Detectives with the Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions began investigating the scene and were able to identify the suspect's vehicle that was used.
That vehicle was later found unoccupied in Manchester, according to police, and officers later found the driver in the vicinity. Police arrested 53-year-old Arnold Marcus, a Manchester resident, and charged him with criminal possession of a firearm and murder.
Marcus was held on a $2 million bond.
According to police, investigators found video footage that showed two people who appeared to know each other engaging in a "loud, verbal argument" before the shooting.
The shooting marks the city's 11th homicide of the year, police said.
"What we tend to see, and especially lately, is personal disputes get out of control," Hartford Police Lt. Aaron Boisvert said. "My message is the same: this is not a 'we should have been here,' 'someone should have known about this,' this is a loud, personal dispute. Call us before it gets out of hand. When you see these things heating up, call us before it gets out of hand, so we can get here and hopefully resolve it before this happens."
