HARTFORD, Conn. — Hartford police said they have arrested and charged a New London man with murder in connection to a fatal shooting.
Police said 30-year-old Chevoyia Rivers, from Manchester, was shot and killed in the afternoon on Oct. 3. Officers were called to an apartment building on Florence Street on the report of shots fired and a person who was struck.
When officers got to the scene, they found Rivers unresponsive. He was rushed to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions began the investigation, which led to 43-year-old Elvin Gonzalez as a suspect.
An arrest warrant was filed for Gonzalez, charging him with the murder of Rivers. On Oct. 12, Gonzelez was found and taken to Hartford police for processing and detention.
Gonzalez was charged with murder, criminal possession of a firearm, and first-degree criminal attempt to commit assault.
Gonzalez was held on a $2 million bond.
