MANCHESTER, Conn. — A Manchester man is facing charges after trying to steal a car out of a Taco Bell parking lot, police said.
And the incident was caught on tape, showing the driver of the vehicle trying to get it back.
Police said the theft happened around 10 a.m. on July 23. A driver parked their Honda Civic at the Taco Bell on Plesant Valley Road. While he went inside, he reportedly left the car idling.
It was at this point that 39-year-old Benjamin Ingram was walking by the lot. He went into the unattended Honda and tried to steal it, police said.
The driver noticed Ingram's attempted theft while leaving the Taco Bell, and he immediately tried to intervene. Police said Ingram ignored the Honda's driver and his attempts to stop the theft and drove away with the car. According to officials, while Ingram drove off, he dragged the Honda's driver across the parking lot in the process, causing injuries.
Manchester investigators later identified Ingram as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant. Ingram was found on Saturday and was taken into custody. While getting arrested, Manchester police said Ingram was found in possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
Ingram was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, third-degree robbery, third-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.
Ingram was held on a $200,000 bond and is set to appear in court on Sept. 3.
