MANCHESTER, Conn. — For nearly a year, multiple Connecticut law enforcement agencies pursued the suspects who stole a Porsche in the Manchester parking lot of Steve’s Bagels and struck its driver on Feb. 4, 2023. One man is now in custody.

Police allege that the suspects also stole an Audi out of Wallingford the day before the incident.

Police announced Thursday the arrest of Manchester resident Elijah Drummond, who has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, conspiracy/theft of a motor vehicle and criminal liability/assault in the first degree.

Around 8:12 a.m. on Feb. 4, 2023, a Manchester resident driving a Porsche pulled into the bagel shop on Center Street to pick up an order. After entering the business, the stolen Audi parked next to the Porsche, and one of the suspects involved entered the driver’s seat of the Porsche, police said.

When the Porsche’s owner attempted to stop the theft, police said the suspect reversed, striking the victim with the front fender area of the vehicle while accelerating. The impact caused the victim to suffer a serious injury, including several fractured vertebrae in his back.

Both the Audi and Porsche fled the scene.

Police located both vehicles several days later, but the suspects remained at large. Following the incident, Drummond was identified after a lengthy collaboration between Manchester Police, the Greater Hartford Regional Auto Theft Task Force, the Glastonbury Police Department, and the Harford Police Department.

After an investigation that lasted nearly a year, an arrest warrant was secured for Drummond, who turned himself in to the Manchester Police Department, police said. He was then placed in the custody of the Connecticut State Police on an outstanding motor vehicle theft warrant, police said.

No information was released regarding other suspects.
