MANCHESTER, Conn. — The death of a person found in the Hockanum River in Manchester Monday is being investigated as suspicious, according to the town's police department.
After receiving a report of a body found in the river, police said their patrol officers responded at 3:26 p.m. to the area near Hilliard Street and New State Road.
Officers found a man who was determined to be dead and removed him from the river with the help of a Manchester Fire and Rescue crew, according to police.
The man was identified by police Wednesday as 40-year-old Justin Shvetz of Vernon. He was reported missing by his family on Feb. 11 to Vernon police and entered him into a national database as missing.
Vernon police worked alongside the family in an attempt to locate Shvetz before he was found dead, police said.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy and is waiting on further test results to determine a cause of death. Police said it was reported that there were no signs of physical injury or trauma.
