SIMSBURY, Conn. — The Simsbury Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle that happened Tuesday morning.
Around 6:04 a.m., officers received multiple 911 calls about the two-vehicle crash on Hartford Avenue (Route 189) at Main Street in the Tarriffville neighborhood, police said. The town's police and fire departments, along with EMS, responded to the collision.
First responders at the scene treated the motorcycle operator, who was taken to Saint Francis Hospital and later pronounced dead.
Police identified the victim Thursday as James Ferreira, 61.
The vehicle driver, who was operating a Ford F-350, stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
The cause of the crash is currently unknown.
The Simsbury Police Department is investigating the collision, and any witnesses are asked to contact Sgt. Laurel Harrington at 860-658-3112.
Route 189 was closed between Elm Street in Tarrifville and Hatchet Hill Road in East Granby due to the crash, but was reopened as of 11:30 a.m.
