SOUTHINGTON, Conn. — A man has been charged in connection with a fatal crash in April of last year, that killed a New Britain man.
Shannon Sherry, 48. was charged with misconduct with a motor vehicle and failure to drive in the proper lane following an investigation into the crash that killed Elijah Vallier, 24, of New Britain.
Connecticut State Police said Sherry was driving in the left hand lane of I-84 East near Exit 30 when he suddenly veered to the right in a late attempt to take the exit. Police and witnesses, who provided dashcam video, said the right side of Sherry's car struck the center driver's side of the pickup Vallier was driving causing it to fishtail across the eastbound lanes, and roll over. Vallier died at the scene.
Sherry is a sergeant in the Norwalk police department. He has been placed on administrative leave according to the department.
Police said Sherry's inattention at the time of the crash contributed to the collision.
