CHESHIRE, Conn. — A 52-year-old Cheshire man died after the vehicle they were driving crashed into a school bus on Route 10 early Monday morning.
Cheshire police officers were called to the area of Route 10 (Highland Ave.) and Stony Hill Road around 6:30 a.m. on a report of a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus.
When they arrived, they found a Subaru SUV and a school bus in the middle of the road. Preliminary investigation found that the school bus was traveling southbound on Highland Ave. when the Subaru traveling southbound crossed the double yellow line.
The Subaru crashed head-first into the school bus, despite the bus driver attempting to swerve as far right to the southbound lane as possible.
The driver of the Subaru, identified as Casey Kennedy, 52, of Cheshire, was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The two drivers were the only people in their respective vehicles.
A portion of Route 10 was closed for several hours and has since reopened.
