SOUTHINGTON, Connecticut — The Southington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) are investigating after 10 handguns were stolen from a firearms store in town, officials said.
The burglary happened at Lock N' Loaded Firearms on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike. Police said suspects broke into the business through the front window early Sunday morning, activating the store's alarm.
Shortly after that, a Southington officer found the vehicle suspected of being involved driving away from the scene. The vehicle was being tracked until it was abandoned in Cheshire, directly across from I-691 on Route 10.
Officials said officers recovered one handgun that was left in the vehicle and while they searched the area for the suspects, they were unsuccessful in finding them.
Police are working with ATF and the business owners to track down the stolen firearms, officials said. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Jogn Marenholz at 860-378-1648.
