NORFOLK, Conn — A fatal crash occurred along West Greenwoods Road in Norfolk on Friday evening, starting two brush fires that have since been extinguished.

The crash left one person dead and another seriously injured. Preliminary reports note that the crash was caused by a fallen tree.

Connecticut State Police report that Troop B personnel were dispatched to the area of 444 West Greenwoods Road for a pickup truck that reportedly hit a utility pole. Serious injuries were reported, and a LIFE STAR helicopter was requested.

The crash sparked two brush fires, one on either side of the road, as the pickup truck pulled down power lines. The roadway was closed. One fire covered over an acre, while the other covered about three-quarters of an acre.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s forestry unit also arrived on scene.

According to Barbagallo, one passenger in the pickup truck was taken to the hospital by LIFE STAR with serious injuries, while the other individual in the truck was killed in the crash. Barbagallo said the fallen pole crushed the pickup truck.

As of 9:30 p.m., Connecticut State Police were beginning their investigation into the crash.
