LITCHFIELD, Conn. — A man died after drowning in Bantam Lake at the Point Folly Campground early Saturday afternoon, according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
DEEP said that Kyree Dowd, 27, of Meriden, died at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday after he was pulled from the lake and taken to a local hospital by first responders.
A 16-year-old boy who was also involved was taken to a hospital for evaluation, DEEP said.
First responders, including the Bantam Fire Company, emergency medical services, Connecticut State Police and EnCon Police were called to the scene for a report of "distressed swimmers" at Bantam Lake around 12:30 p.m., according to DEEP.
The first group of safety personnel arrived there at 12:40 p.m. and confirmed that a man was actively drowning. All EMS and Dive Team assets reported to the command post at the campground, and all boat assets reported to Litchfield Town Beach, according to a release from the Bantam Fire Company.
The first diver entered the water at 12:48 p.m., and additional resources and first responders arrived on scene. The backup assumed the standby diver roles, the fire company said.
