MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — At approximately 12:48 p.m. on Saturday, Middletown police responded to a vehicle versus utility pole collision in the proximity of 280 Reservoir Road, just north of Training Hill Road, police said.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered an overturned 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the roadway; police said it was tangled in live electrical wires. When the Jeep collided with the utility pole, the pole broke, and the wires fell, entangling the vehicle.
The live power lines forced the driver to remain trapped in the Jeep until Eversource Electric responded and cut off the power to the area, police said, noting that the driver was successfully pulled out of the vehicle by South District Fire personnel.
The driver, who police identified as 35-year-old Cinque Williams of Meriden, was transported to Hartford Hospital by Hunter’s Ambulance, where he remained in stable condition when the police issued a release around 3 p.m.
The Middletown Police Traffic Division is investigating the collision, the cause of which has not yet been determined. Anyone with any pertinent information is asked to contact Officer E. Sanford at 860-638-4063.
