2-year-old seriously injured after opening moving SUV door: State police

The incident happened in Clinton Tuesday afternoon. State police said an unrestrained child in the back seat opened the SUV's door.

CLINTON, Conn. — A child is recovering from serious injuries after falling out of a moving SUV in Clinton, state police said. 

Around 3:15 p.m., a Toyota Highlander was driving north on Sunnybrook Lane. State police said that as the SUV was negotiating a left curve, the 2-year-old opened the back right door. 

The child then fell out of the Toyota as it came to a final stop along Sunnybrook Lane. 

State police said the child was rushed to Yale Children's Hospital for their serious injuries. The driver of the Toyota was also taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for injuries. 

The Connecticut State Police - Central District Major Crime Squad and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating.
